Escape Sequence
Created for GMTK Game Jam 2026. The game is actually a SNES rom embedded in EmulatorJS bundle.
I've been working with SNES development for a little while and I'm continuing to push my skills. This project I really developed my Tool pipeline to create assets in Aseprite and maps in Tiled and be able to bring them directly into the ca65 SNES environment.
The game itself is unfinished.
My intent was to develop a platformer in the essence of the traditional Metroid escape sequence but with randomized paths and pickups. I have created several maps, a few enemies and pickups that didn't make it into the game.
I hit a major memory leak bug in implementing the map transition and sprite loading logic. And instead of rolling back my source control and trying again, I ran my head into that wall for far too long and lost track of time.
I would have preferred to have something more resembling a finished game, but I am happy with what I accomplished.

The platforming feels really good considering the time constraint. The little squash and stretch of the player character is a nice touch too.
I'm excited to see how your tooling work manifests in your next project! That invisible backend work is key!
I've wanted to play an snes game again for so long this is so cool ;_;
